Springtime brings not only the budding of flowers and the return of warmer days but also the eagerly anticipated Hampshire Golf Seniors Spring Meeting. This year's event, hosted at the picturesque Alresford Golf Club, saw seasoned golfers gather for a day of camaraderie, competition, and, of course, some impressive displays of skill on the course.

In a fiercely contested gross event, it was Gerry Penfold who emerged victorious, showcasing not only his talent but also his dedication to the sport. Penfold's exceptional performance was solid all round but especially showed off his brilliant short game skills.

However, the excitement didn't end there. In the nett category, it was Steve Bowen, travelling from Royal Jersey GC, who captured the spotlight with his outstanding play. Bowen's strategic prowess and precision on the course secured him the nett victory.

The atmosphere at Alresford Golf Club competitive but relaxed and the course was in beautiful condition- lovely and firm for this time of year and all of the competitors enjoyed the downland challenge.

As the spring breeze carries the promise of warmer days, the Counties First Team eagerly await the season's kickoff event: the inter-county friendly between Hampshire and The Channel Islands. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the seaside links course at Hayling Golf Club, this two-day showdown promises to deliver thrilling competition amidst stunning coastal vistas.

While it may be a friendly match, make no mistake, the competition will be fierce. Both teams are primed and ready to showcase their skills on the challenging terrain of Hayling Golf Club. With its undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and unpredictable coastal winds, every shot will demand precision and strategy.

Despite the intensity of the competition, the camaraderie and sportsmanship among the players will undoubtedly be on full display. Golf is a game that fosters respect, integrity, and friendship, and this event is a celebration of those values as much as it is a battle for victory.

Hayling Golf Club's seaside links course offers a unique and breathtaking setting for this prestigious event. We are thrilled to introduce Luke Hodgetts of Hockley Golf Club, as the new Captain of our Challenge League, a pivotal part of our men’s squad. With a passionate commitment to excellence and a drive to leave no stone unturned, Luke embodies the spirit of our team as we aim to elevate the performance of the sqaud to new heights. Luke has been a valued member of our Men’s Squad since lifting the Selborne Salver in 2022 and was part of the League and Final Winning 1st team last season.

In 2023, our Challenge League team showcased their potential when they won their league and reached the regional final before narrowly losing out to Essex, whetting the appetite for even greater triumphs ahead.
With Hodgetts at the helm, we are dedicated to pushing boundaries and surpassing our previous achievements. His leadership, coupled with his unwavering dedication to utilising coaching, analytics and fostering team camaraderie, will undoubtedly propel us toward our goal of being the best County in the Country.
