Wall to wall sunshine greeted the players for the playing of the 2023 Courage Trophy at the immaculately presented Barton On Sea Golf Club. The Courage Trophy marks the end of the County Strokeplay season with a total of 4 Trophies up for grabs on the day- the final results can be seen by clicking here.
Darren Walkley of Liphook GC clearly felt at home on the seaside course on the New Forest Coast putting together two fantastic rounds of 67 and 68 to win the main event by 2 shots over Martin Young, who took home his 11th Hampshire Mid Amateur Championship.
The Cole Scuttle, awarded for the lowest accumulative score from the County Championships and the Courage Trophy, was also claimed by Walkley who added the scores from Barton to his +2 total at Hockley earlier this Summer.
Finally, to complete the clean sweep, Darren cemented his dominance on the event by lifting the season long Order Of Merit and taking home the voucher prize of £700- the highest possible fund available for amateur golfers.
In the Nett Trophies home field advantage obviously paid off as David Green, Barton's Club Captain, won top prize in both divisions and was perhaps the most popular winner from the home crowd!
Our sincerest of thanks goes to all of the competitors for taking part in the event, our wonderful team of referees, the entire team at Barton On Sea for looking after us so well throughout the day and all of the supporters who lined the balcony on a late Summers evening to watch the players complete their rounds on a memorable day of golf in the sunshine.
