Archibald and Hodgetts Win County Foursomes Title

North Hants proved to be the perfect venue for the County and Mid Am Foursomes on Sunday 17th September as the best pairs of golfers in the region took to the course for 36 holes of strokeplay to decide the title. It was a classic '4 seasons' kind of day with a steady breeze, sunshine, light rain and torrential downpours! 

Fortunately the entire field managed to complete all 36 holes and the standard was still high depsite the difficult conditions. The morning round saw a string of solid scores come in as Grant Thorne and Ben Ludlam lead the way with a 71, followed by Archibald and Hodgetts just one shot back of the lead. 

Over lunch the heavens opened and the deluge that fell from the skies deemed the course unplayable and the golfers were brought off the course temporarily to allow the green staff, referrees and volunteers to remove as much water as possible in order for the show to go on!

Luckily for us, the rain eased and the free draining soil at North Hants meant that the course was back in play within an hour and the tournament could come to an exciting close. 

The leading Mid Am pair of Ryan Henley and Richard Elmes of Stoneham mounted a strong challenge for both titles as they guided themselves round the heathland course ticking off pars as they went. Finally a couple of putts dropped on their 16th and 18th holes which saw them post the only sub par round of the day and post a 3 over total which saw them leading the event. It didn't take long for that score to be beaten though as next to post was Hodgetts and Archibald who overcame a slightly sloppy pair of bogeys on the 16th and 17th to finish strongly with a clutch birdie on the 18th green, which turned out to be the winning stroke of the Championship. Henley and Elmes had to settle for the Mid Am win and are pictured below with Neil Dawson, North Hants Club Captain.
