In a highly anticipated fixture at Puttenham Golf Club, Hampshire's Under-12, Under-13, and Under-14 teams joined forces to take on a formidable Surrey side. With four players from each age group representing Hampshire, the teams faced off against Surrey in a series of tough matches, creating a strong competitive atmosphere on the picturesque course.

The day started with high spirits as Hampshire's players, fresh from a busy Summer so far, took to the course ready to give it all they had. Throughout the matches, the Hampshire team demonstrated their ability to compete at a high level. The players showcased their top class ball striking, handling the pressure well and making Surrey work hard for every hole.

Despite their best efforts and some closely contested games, Hampshire found themselves in a battle against a very strong Surrey team. Several matches went down to the wire, with Hampshire holding their own until the final holes. Unfortunately, a few crucial games slipped away in the dying moments, leading to a narrow but decisive shift in momentum.

In the end, Surrey emerged victorious with a 5-1 win. Although the defeat was disappointing, it was clear that Hampshire's young players gained invaluable experience from the competitive environment. The scoreline did not fully reflect the closeness of many of the matches, and Hampshire can take pride in their performance against such a tough opponent. Special mention must go to William 'Bug' Stratford of Royal Jersey GC and Ollie Blunn of Royal Winchester who came through a very tough match, full of distraction and various rules debates to pick up their point. The way that they knuckled down and stuck together as a team was a season defining highlight.

Beyond the competition, the day encapsulated the camaraderie and togetherness within the Hampshire squad. Despite the challenging matches, the players maintained a positive and supportive spirit throughout. This bond was evident as several members of the team, undeterred by the day's results, headed back out onto the course after the meal, late in to the evening. There, they enjoyed an additional 9 holes together, not as competitors, but as new team mates and friends. This display of unity and passion for the game underscored the strength of the team dynamic and bodes well for future competitions.

The fixture not only served as a valuable learning experience but also reinforced the close-knit nature of the Hampshire squad. The players showed resilience, promise, and a genuine love for the sport—qualities that will undoubtedly contribute to their growth and success in the years to come.

We are very much looking forward to the return fixture in Hampshire in 2025.
